Discover: our Top 8 Interior Design Trend Predictions in 2021

“It’s always about timing. If it’s too soon, no one understands. If it’s too late, everyone’s forgotten” – Anna Wintour

2020 has been a long year, we all have a good reason to be obsessing about the new year, not only looking forward to all the changes but particularly the new design trends coming up this 2021.

A trend might come and go – but after researching much about 2021’s trend, the team behind Ideal Home Bali are excited to share how 2021’s predicted trends will impact the design world, from the top luxurious designers to any interior design enthusiast worldwide.

Although trends are not always used in designing a room, it can help spark creativity. Whether you are an interior designer, a home stager, or if you just love to decorate, it is always good to discover new trends for the new year.

In this blog post, the Ideal Home Bali editors have compiled forecast trends that will be popular in 2021.

From the growing interest of sustainable materials and biophilic design to the bold style and elements, and new style to decorate a room, discover the list below to bring your home into the New Year with an impeccable style.

Take a look at our Top 8 Interior Design Trends this 2021:

1. Grandmillennial Style

What is Grandmillenial style? Let’s dive deep and find out

Formerly unpopular, this style has taken the mainstream road since the mention of it in this article by house beautiful.  A term coined by writer Emma Bazilian, a Grandmillennial is a young, Instagram-loving, décor aficionado with a passion for Parisian style, delicate patterns and lots of floral elements.

This style is becoming more popular because it gives freedom of expression and it shows one’s personality. It liberates one to make a single design choice, and create space where one is free to think differently and decorate it with an eye for design, combined with a love of bold patterns and soft pastel colours.

A well-edited design is a key to pulling off the grand millennial look in a way that’s more timeless than antiquated.

Be selective as you accessorize to avoid an overly cluttered look. Choose fabrics in bold patterns, but keep the colour palette tight and consistent so the look is layered and cosy, not chaotic.

Above all, decorate with what you love.

2. Arches

From curved doorways, rounded windows and arched mirrors – the possibilities are endless.

Archways are typical of traditional architecture and are now having a revival. Architects and designers adding curved doorways, rounded windows and arched mirrors to their interior design projects.

Aligned with the “Chubby” and Biophilic Design trends, arches appear as a new way to add curves and more organic shapes inside our homes, not only through actual archways but also through decorative stuff, curved layout, and an arched wall.

Arched elements add timelessly stylish and universally appealing elements to architectural designs and bring classy feel into modern interiors. Arches are great architectural designs for accentuating functional zones. Visually distinguish, living spaces with arches look wider and more spacious, visually increasing their sizes. Arches are perfect for many places in office and homes, such as hallways and living rooms, kitchens and dining rooms, bedrooms and walk-in closets.

Modern interiors look gorgeous with beautiful arches. Arched openings add a classy and elegant look to modern interior design and make decorating feel elegant, harmonious and pleasant.

3. Natural Elements

The beauty of nature within the world of design

Rattan and cane furniture have skyrocketed in popularity in the last few years, and the use of natural materials continues to be an anchor of many brands’ new collections.

We believe this reflects a rise in consumer demand for more sustainable, artisan-made materials and greater prioritization among the trade when designing and sourcing for clients. Modsy also reported the use of natural materials as a 2021 design trend, which was the most favoured trend for the new year by clients they surveyed.

Natural materials not only create a more layered space, but they also welcome the outdoors in and are perfect accents for houseplants. Certain materials like teak have a luxurious yet worn-in look that adds elegance to your room.

We do believe that, especially in Bali, a lot more homes, hotels, resorts and commercial spaces are incorporating the use of natural materials for their interior fixtures and furnishings.

4. 80’s Comeback in 2021

80’s might just be the trend to come back to in 2021

Although comfort and tradition will be big in 2021, the modern look that became big in the ’80s will be popular too.

Interior design and home decor of the 1980s suggested one’s success through new, modern shapes and materials. Angular shapes, glass and stone materials, with a touch of Art Deco are hallmarks of the style. Those formerly modern shapes have become retro, which is why people like them now.

“Just as antiques are a bargain, for the past few years, furniture and decor from the 1980s have been easy and inexpensive to obtain on secondhand marketplaces,” Alessandra Wood, Modsy’s vice president of style told Insider.

As a style becomes current and stylish again, authentic pieces will be sought at much higher prices, and there will be a lot of retailers and designers offering their own takes in this modern look.

5. Natural Fabrics over Synthetics

Synthetic fabrics such as polyester, nylon, and rayon may lose ground to natural and recycled textiles in 2021.

“With the growing awareness of environmental issues, I foresee a trend for using more sustainable materials and natural fabrics in the home,” Ross Thompson, interior designer at QE Home, says.

Textiles like organic cotton, recycled polyester, and low-impact linen as prime candidates for 2021 trends. We truly cannot wait for all the new and natural fabric products that will emerge this 2021 onwards.

6. Earthy Goodness & Ceramic Vessels

Ceramic vessels bring beauty and soul to our everyday experiences. Ceramics are both functional, decorative, and create an earthy, artisanal feel in any space. Ceramics and pottery keep it grounded and remind us of nature – ever important in a hyper-connected world.

7. Statement Pieces

A pop of colour of a unique piece of art or interior fixture will surely amplify your space

Luxury and minimal design space with a bold statement piece is a go-to trend this 2021.

8. Shades of Grey
